My eyes pop when I see the seven-figure check in my hands. How could I have ever doubted “The Secret?” This was no hoax. This was riches beyond my wildest dreams.
Then I awake. There is no check, but I have an unsettling feeling. Have I scoffed too quickly at the concepts taught by “The Secret?” Am I robbing myself of a more fulfilling life because I, as is often is the case, am too quick to judge?
I pause. I open my copy of “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne and began to read: “The Great Secret of Life is The Law of Attraction.” “The Law of Attraction says like attracts like, so when you think a thought you are also attracting like thoughts to you.” “Your thoughts become things.” “Like Aladdin’s Genie, the Law of Attraction grants our every command.” “The Creative Process helps you create what you want in three simple steps: ask, believe and receive.”
A “Teacher” of “The Secret”--wealth specialist David Schirmer--illustrates the power of the Law of Attraction by describing how he amazes people by always finding a parking spot where he imagines before hand that it will be. I can relate. I’ve proven to my wife on repeated occasions that I can always find a parking spot in crowded Newport Beach by slowing down, thinking positive and waiting for a space to come available. Though others race around the vast beachside parking lots to no avail, I consistently snag a prime spot just across from The Crab Cooker—our favorite restaurant.
Could it be I have been unwittingly tapping into the power of “The Secret?” I decide to experiment. Saturday I go for a bike ride. As I pedal, I think positive thought of Olallieberry pie. An Olallieberry is a special hybrid that is genetically about two-thirds blackberry and one-third red raspberry… and 100% delicious. For one hour I pedal and think affirming Olallieberry thoughts.
Pulling into Polly’s Pie Palace I sidle up to the counter and order myself a piece. Alas, it is not meant to be. The elusive Olallieberry is out of season. But, make that “my big butt,” is gladdened to discover they have the even more elusive fresh peach pie ready to be served. My taste buds dance like barefoot children on hot asphalt. Children who are unable to seek relief on the cool grass because their deranged mother is zealously guarding the lawn by wildly swinging a wickedly sharp garden rake… wow, how did that childhood memory work its way into the blog?
Suffice it to say, the peach pie is pleasing, but I quickly forget my experiment with the Law of Attraction… until the next evening. Sunday I am unexpectedly invited to a gathering on my ex-wife’s side of the family. Sunday I am surrounded by pies—at least a half dozen different types. Sunday I become a believer.
The signs are everywhere. Parking. Pies. Peach Pies. A Plethora of Pies.
The Law of Attraction is in full swing and the focus is the letter “P.” “P,” as in Powerball—my heart’s true desire. I focus on what the Universe is telling me. My thoughts merge with a power greater than myself.
“P.” The sixteenth letter in the alphabet. One followed by six. One plus six… Seven. My father had seven children. What a powerful number. What is the Universe telling me?
As I meditate on the Powerball it all becomes clear. As fate would have it I am in Arizona. Arizona, where the Powerball is the multistate lottery of choice. Not the Mega Millions like my newly adopted home state of California.
Power surges through my body. I race to the local convenience mart. Sixteen Powerball tickets are purchased--eight with the Powerball of 16 and eight with the Powerball of 7.
Alone in my recently escrowed house I collect my thoughts. I pray, Not some empty words to a faceless diety. Today I command the Universe that knows my name. “Friday I will win the Powerball!” I shout. My words echo off the walls. “Friday I will win the Powerball!”
I know the Universe hears me. I feel it in the core of my being.
Tune it next Monday when the full power of “The Secret” is revealed.

The Law of Attraction always works. The only problem, why sometimes people think it doesn't, is because beside the Law of Attraction there are other laws as well: the Law of Forgivenes; the Law of Supply; The Law of Obedience etc: http://quantummindsuccess.com/articles/uncover-11-forgotten-laws
Also, you have to be first, and only then you can have. Quite often people think they can remain as they are and they can simply attract what they want. Well, they don't. In that way they only attract that what they already are: more want.

I am a 43 year old software engineer. I have spent 7 years teaching computers at McMaster University, a few more at various colleges, I have an incredible life, and I am also one of the founders of http://liveinthenow.tv which is a free social network for positivity, spirituality and enlightenment. The goal of the site is to attract all positive people together into one social network – allowing us to easily tap into the law of attraction.
I discovered the law of attraction around the time I was 16 years old. At the time, I was a high school dropout, and my life was going nowhere… I was out one night, I felt very depressed about my life – when all of a sudden I had a realization come to me. It was more of a voice within – giving me a very special gift… I really have no other way of explaining it other than a knowing came upon me. I decided at that point that I was only going to focus on positive things… I hated the direction my life was going, and I decided I was only going to focus a positive outcome. I was going to focus on success, and I was going to keep only positive thoughts and outcomes in my mind.
A few years later, I’m end up an instructor at McMaster university teaching computers as part of the information technology program.. I have been able to manifest many other things in my life – and its all due to this law.
Here is why it works:
You – are not really a biological being.. If you look at what science has proven, your not really even a real person. Look very very close at what you are (i.e. what your made up of), you’ll find that all you are is a mass of atoms (electrons, protons, neutrons)… as a matter of fact, the whole universes is made up of this stuff….
Aside from energy, the other component that makes up “you” - is thought. You have consciousness.. Your thoughts come from outside of the energy matter that makes up the universe.
In other words, you are just energy with consciousness… and our consciousness or thoughts are what shapes how we perceive the energy (aka atoms) - around you.. you are shaping energy.. – You are able to re-arrange how you precise energy around you with your thoughts
If your into this stuff, please come out and check out our site… its all based on this… it’s a free, and a pretty cool place where we want all positive people in the world together into one place – and see what we can manifest…

Good luck searching…
Peace

I look at the comments above and it sure looks like this works. I am new to this and I have been trying to use the law of attraction for about three days. I am a negative person to the core and I want to overcome this. So far, it has been amazing...but I could use some help. I need a kick in the butt when things take longer then I expect. Would you folks that have been doing this for a long time be willing to post your successes on my blog? I hope you will! www.proofthesecretworks.blogspot.com

I just saw the trailer on the film “How Thoughts become Things” and thought it was worth talking about here. I think this will be a great movie. The website talks about deeper lessons into The Law of Attraction, using Neuroscience and modern Psychology. The film is being made by Douglas Vermeeren who did The Opus. I am interested to know everyones thoughts. Since Rhonda Byrne has put out her book “The Power” and has apparently has no intention of doing another movie like “The Secret” is this movie the next step for all of humanity?
Here’s the website http://www.Howthoughtsbecomethings.com

Anyone who doubts the Law of Attraction is doubting the most basic universal law of energy.
Lester Levenson, the developer of releasing, spoke of many of the concepts that Rhonda speaks of now, back in the 50's.
He was a millionaire physicist who knew about energy.

I have always known that thinking positively is so much more powerful than any negative thought could be. Understanding that we have absolutely nothing to be negative about is the key to manifesting your life the way you want it. We have everything to be thankful for...even if it is just waking up everyday. Really think about what makes you happy and focus on it while you are thinking about what you really want...and it will come.

Have you heard of the new upcoming movie "How Thoughts Become Things?" I just saw the trailer at http://www.HowThoughtsBecomeThings.com It is a question I have had since seeing the Secret, but it really hasn't been answered very well. I hope this film will do a better job. It claims it will tie the Law of Attraction to modern Neuroscience in a way that will be applicable for everyone. I think that if they can provide these answers it will be wonderful!

We don’t always get our hopes and dreams, and we don’t always get our own way.
But don’t give up hope, because you can make a difference one situation and one person at a time. Did you agree with me?

The Law of Attraction is as real as gravity, but let's not forget the action component which goes along with it. Yes we must be a match to what we desire with our thoughts, a match with our emotions, and a match with our spoken words, but there still is the action component which is critical. We must DO something and then watch the manifestation. Thanks, Andy

The Law of Attraction really does work. But since The Secret came out I think the new catch phrase might be a "Universal Consciousness" and where people a few years back were desperately seeking success I think today people just want to be happy. That's why it's time to have a new film - a update to The Secret. And that's why we teamed with inspirational speaker and author Andy Feld to make that happen. This time the secret is 'Shamshara.'
thanks for listening,
Kim

There are times when we wish for something, it somehow manifests without ever knowing exactly how it came about.
Its because we let go....and as we are not thinking of it..it naturally appears:)
Have great day

I think Joe Vitale and Robert Anthony are the best sources on the Law of Attraction. There are two schools of thinking; the 'Put a Happy Face On' school (Abraham-Hicks), which will work if you have no subconscious polarities working against you. (I think you have to be born and raised in Topanga for this one to work)
Then there is the 'Leave No Stone Unturned' school, which uses clearing modalities, recommended by Dr. Joe Vitale and Dr. Robert Anthony.

Excellent blog and comments from everyone. I too am interested in the Law of Attraction and have studied everything I could get my hands on since watching The Secret.
The lightbulb moment for me was realizing that in order to attract good into my life the Number 1 thing I had to do was to just be happy.

I too am a firm believer in the LOA. It does work, but only in as much as you have the capacity to believe it. I started out trying to manifest money and circumstances that were beyond my belief system. It did not work.
Finally, I figured out that I needed to back off and set smaller intermediate goals that were within my realm of possibility. It has made all the difference in the world for me.
Each success acts as a stepping stone to manifest the next level of reality.
In the instance of money, I have manifested ever increasing amounts of money until now, I have plenty of money. Money is no longer a problem. It just keeps showing up.
I have written about my experiences with the LOA on my website. As a believer in Karma, I feel an obligation, like you, to pass it on.
Good post and keep up the good work.

The Law of Attraction does work. However, the Secret movie was more about marketing the law of attraction and not the law of attraction itself.

Hey everyone. LOA does work. The question is how. My studies have really made me understand the key to LOA, and that is cause and effect. Start looking at your life in a different perspective. Ask your self why the things (good or bad) are happening to you. What were you doing prior to that led up to your result? What were you Thinking? Feeling? What actions did you take? This has helped me lead a better life when I started looking at life in this perspective......

Consciousness is what it is all about and if people begin to study The Law Of Attraction becuase they are wnating more material good in their life bravo... however if they go beyond and actaully realize that we are one with the Supreme Consciousness than I for one am deeply joyfull. When we begin to stop and think and then stop thinking ther powers to be unlock themselves and the veil of illusion is dissolved. When this happens we do enter the sea of unlimited consciouness where all miracles unfold. So thnak you for stating this conversation. you rock!!

According to me The message to is so simple. Cultivate gratitude and follow your bliss.
Everything is energy, a fact well documented by quantum physics. Directing your thoughts and emotions, your unique energy, towards what you seek will allow you to work with the flow of the universe...

Hi, Everyone. I was checking out this forum and wanted to share an idea I learned from the book I just read called Harmonic Wealth by James Arthur Ray. In the first section of the book, called “Financial”, James introduces the concept of MSIs, or MULTIPLE SOURCES OF INCOME. For me, this idea was like a lightbulb going off in my head. Don’t be a “diving board” and rely on just one source of income – if it cuts off, you’re in the dark. Instead, create a “Parthenon” of income – one with many, many pillars of support – so that you never are relying on just one. I know most of us have 401Ks or some kind of investments – but step it up a notch and start thinking like a wealthy person. Check out James’s suggestions on page 122 of his book.

It is the book that inspired the secret and is nothing like the secret. It is the most amazing book I have ever read and I can assure you that its worth every cent. Go and buy one and see for yourself.

I have one question... why did he yell that he would win the Powerball on Friday, if the Powerball is only drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays?
Posted by: Alex | November 04, 2007 at 08:39 PM
I'm with John, the Schirmers have negatively impacted so many peoples lives that it is impossible to be a lie and yet the Schirmers are still justifying what they have done. I don't think they are normal and I really mean that.
Posted by: Penny | September 18, 2007 at 06:47 PM
If you ever wondered how Schirmer got his money.....he took off other people and never gave it back. He is just a conartist, nothing more, and he is not wealthy, because he was expecting to get wealthy from telling people how to get wealthy through "The Secret", but he came unstuck before that occurred. Check out the media interviews on this site www.schirmerexposed.co.nr
